Anne and Gilbert finally marry at Green Gables, the house Anne grew up in, and move to the village of Four Winds, P.E.I. There, they take up residence in a small house Anne dubs the "House of Dreams", and Gilbert takes over his uncle's medical practice in the nearby town of Glen St. Mary.Anne ultimately marries Gilbert Blythe, the classmate who once called her “carrots” and had a slate broken over his head for his impertinence. They settle in Glen St. Mary, where Gilbert practises medicine, and they have six children: Jem, Walter, the twins Nan and Di, Shirley and Rilla.In the original books, Anne and Gilbert get married and have a total of seven children between approximately 1895-1900. One of them dies in infancy and three of their chilcredn fight in the first World War.

After Anne turned Gilbert's proposal down, she likely didn't think they would be able to meet on good terms for some time.But I think he also likes her because they're both intelligent, do well in school and like to read classics and poetry. Those things help make a bond. Also, Anne is fun and spunky and out spoken, something Gilbert hasn't seen much of as far as I can tell from the books.
