Coming Up This Week January 20

beautifyl chainsIt’s January which means that in North America and most of Europe we’re in the grip of a deep freeze. Today it was -8 C here in Toronto but with the wind chill it felt like -20 C. There’s no escape from the cold but we’ll try to brighten your days and nights by reviewing a few books and hope you can find one or two to keep you warm

This week I’m interviewing Kris Piet and S.L. Armstrong about their company, Storm Moon Press. The interview will be live on Wednesday.

Nicole Kimberling has written her usual bi monthly column and this time it’s about Too Stupid To Live characters. Check out her post on Thursday – it’s really funny. :).

Next week I’ll be interviewing Nathie, an artist who is an incredible talent. This will be a first for the site because Nathie speaks very little English so the interview will be in both English and German. If your native language is German I hope you will drop by to ask Nathie questions and maybe a few volunteers will translate them into English. Should be fun. :)

If you didn’t see it, here’s a link to Rick R. Reed’s first post as a regular Author Contributor on the site: Coming Out as a Romance Author

This weekend the following books were reviewed:  MNevermind 1: The Persistence of Memory by Jordan Castillo Price reviewed by Jeayci; Raine reviewed Lightning Rod (Broken Mirrors series no. 2) by Vaughn R. Demont; Buda reviewed Out-Foxed (Skyler Foxe Mysteries #3) by Haley Walsh; I reviewed The Other Guy by Cary Attwell; Sirius reviewed Gone, Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz; and Cryselle reviewed Angel in the Window by Charlie Cochrane.

My favourite NFL punter, Chris Kluwe, was on Ellen last Friday talking about why gay Major League players don’t come out.

In preparation for the Super Bowl in two weeks watch Chris Kluwe’s incredible kick on Ellen

A sad note: This may be the last week for the Friday Guys because a number of artists and photographers are not happy that their photos are posted on various websites without royalties being paid. Since I can’t afford to be sued (this site does not charge for any of its services so there’s no money in the kitty), I think I should be prudent and withdraw from the fray. After more than four years of weekly posts the Friday Guys will take their last bow this week. I may post pictures of the guys occasionally but the weekly column is toast I’m afraid.

Till next week that’s a wrap.

  • I absolutely ADORE Chris Kluwe! And those two punts he did at the end of the show were amazing!

And I wish we were in a deep freeze here…it was 70 Monday and 42 Tuesday…no wonder keep getting sick…I should move up north…

FYI, I’m reading A Boy and His Dragon right now. 😀

    • Hi Crissy

Isn’t Chris Kluwe the best? I didn’t think he would make those shots at the end – awesome.

I hope you enjoy A Boy and his Dragon as much as I did. I think Bertie is a great character.

      • He was also pretty entertaining on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report a couple weeks ago, though his talk with Ellen was a little “deeper” (I agree with you and Chrissy, the dude rocks, as does Brendon Ayanbadejo). And I’m sure we’ll all miss the Friday Guys, but good grief we don’t want anyone getting into trouble.

        • Chris Kluwe is one of the most upstanding guys around in the Major Leagues. He fights for what he believes in. You’re also right about Brendon Ayanbadejo who started this whole same sex marriage debate in the NFL. They are both incredible men.

Yeh, about the Friday Guys, I’ve been debating this for a while but I don’t want to be served with a cease and desist order and be taken to court. I’m still trying to figure out if there’s a way around this and I’ll be writing a few website /blog owners to find out what’s the scoop. But for the time being I’m going to cool it, so this Friday will be the last one with the guys, for a while anyway. 😮

  • Oh no, I will so miss the Friday Guys – they always got my weekend off to a flying start! :(

I’m sure their last week will be extra specially good though :)

    • Hi anne

I too will be sorry to miss the Friday Guys – they have been with me since I started my old blog almost 4 years ago. I don’t know about a special post this Friday because right now I’m sad about letting them go. However I’ll probably come up with something.

      Thanks for commiserating.

  • I can’t wait ’till the interview with Nathie :hurray2: I love the book covers and all the other incredible illustrations. Thanks for doing this

    • I love Nathie’s work and if I have a small part in bringing it to the attention of people in the English-speaking world who haven’t seen it, then all the better.:)

I hope you will drop by next Wednesday to help with the translations. 😀

  • Looking forward to all the reviews as usual, really sorry to hear about no more Friday guys….
don’t the artists & photographers realize that their photos reach a new audience? And potential buying market?

    • The guys are going to the happy hunting ground for a while but I may bring them back, who knows? I just have to do some research so I don’t get into any kind of financial trouble.

  • 😥 So sad to hear about the Friday Guys! The vaccuum cleaner, dust cloth, mop, tool box and bedroom will be so lonely now. Guess I’d better look up the number for that handyman service. — :hysterics:

    • Hey Bryant

You are even sadder because who will dust and clean and take out the garbage?

Maybe you could send the handyman over to my place when you’re done with him but tell him that I’m not looking for extras. 😆

They may be back after I’ve done some research.

  • Noooooooooooo! I’m going to miss the Friday guys! I understand, but I’m still fence sitting on the whole issue. Downside of the internet I guess.

    • It’s either come out while I’m ahead or wait to be served. I’m still looking into how I can continue the Friday Guys without an author deciding to sue me for using his proprietary material without permission.

  • Still no go with unlucky Aiden lol. I will do Too stupid to live instead – for sure because it is done already :)

  • This must be a really difficult book Sirius. I’ve never seen you so conflicted. 😕 I can’t wait to see this review whenever you actually write it. Maybe you should send out an SOS to Raine. 😆

    • You know how one wants to bang their head against the wall for whatever reason? Picture me wanting to do that. I will let you know when I finally come through the block lol. I am going to try not to burden Raine with more ranting, but I think eventually she is going to hear it anyway :-)
