Do You Watch Gay Porn?

It’s been a while since I posted a poll and I thought this would be a good way to start off the new website.:)

I couldn’t sleep last  night and was reading some of my “saved” articles and came across one that I had set aside  a few months ago  because I wanted to do a poll on this subject. So here’s the question. Do.You.Watch.Gay.Porn? Many of you will lie through your teeth and say “no” while your nose grows longer. :) However, I know that some of us do watch gay porn and will continue denying we do until we drop and go to the happy hunting ground, where we can watch even more gay porn.  :) You might be part of this group of deniers. If so, you don’t need to read any further because you’re not interested in the topic. Right? However if, like me, you admit to watching, why do you do so? Is it the kink factor? Personally I love to see two hot men getting it on, and the guys in gay porn are usually buff, not like those in regular porn whose only attribute is having the biggest dick in town, never mind the pot bellies and skinny legs.

The next question is – Do you think that gay porn is an extension of reading M/M books or gay fiction? Some of the books are pretty raunchy and if you like to visualize (most men prefer pictures to words) you could probably imagine yourself starring in a movie with the protagonists in an M/M romance or gay fiction book. It seems that women don’t watch a lot of straight porn because they are obviously made by men for men and the women in those movies are creepy looking with fake boobs that are so big they threaten their balance. But gay porn is much richer and better quality stuff and some straight women and lots of gay men find it more enjoyable I’m told. According to the latest research, some straight couples as well as straight men now admit to watching man on man action between the sheets.

Do you think that the recent explosion of gay porn is directly connected to ease of access? You don’t have to go to your neighbourhood video store any more to purchase a DVD  and have the store clerk recognise you. Now you can just order online and download your purchase or watch free gay porn because anything is available on the ‘net.

In an article posted by Metro.co.uk the author, Lisa Scott, tried to explain this trend

brokeback-mountain-posters“Watching Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal rolling around in a tent in Ang Lee’s groundbreaking Brokeback Mountain had knees trembling all over the world. Many of those lustily quivering weren’t gay romantics but women. ‘Who knew man-on-man action could be so beautiful?’ they cried.

Although some women have been in on the secret for a while (Japan’s female population lap up boy-love comics while slash fiction, which turns two male characters from cult TV shows into lovers, is mainly for women), us British girls have been lagging behind. Until now.”

‘Which is where male gay porn comes in,’ says Prof Clarissa Smith, author of One For The Girls!, a book about women’s fascination with porn.’It’s a holiday in someone else’s experience,’ explains Smith.

Leading gay fiction author James Lear, … named Writer of the Year at the prestigious Erotic Awards, has seen a sharp rise in British women getting to grips with boy-only sex. His first book, The Back Passage (ahem) was more popular with women than men and his new novel, The Secret Tunnel, looks like it will repeat the same success.

‘As one female fan put it: “One penis is good, two even better,”‘ he explains. ‘They fancy men, they’re turned on by men and so they’re even more turned on by men with men – it’s like “man squared”.’

Asked to explain this phenomenon of women watching gay porn, Lear said It’s even more basic than that. ‘Female readers don’t need a central female character to identify with; they get off on men as men get off on women, appreciating their bodies, enjoying graphic descriptions of sex and objectifying men. They love the idea of a randy gay man seducing other men.’

Brokeback Mountain opened all kinds of doors to women in terms of identifying with male/male characters in romantic relationships in movies and since then the market for gay movies seems to be in the stratosphere, with movies like Shelter which has a huge following. I want to be clear, these two examples are not gay porn movies just gay movies (my gay movies don’t have pretty pictures on the package):)

Is it mostly women who are buying and watching gay porn or do gay AND straight men get off on gay porn as well?

Back to my original question. Do.You.Watch.Gay.Porn? Guys and gals, gay or straight :) especially those of you who make up my large contingent of lurkers, I would appreciate your comments if you’re brave enough to admit you enjoy this dastardly pastime. This is just a fun  poll to see how far we’ve come, or not.

  • Yep. I do and like it much. And, as ML Rhodes said above, I do like amateur stuff also. There is some magic stuff on xtube!! There are also several blogs I follow that have clips of the best bits. :) I have a few favorite actors, and there are loads of them on twitter! Samuel Colt is worth a nosey.

Not sure I’d class Shelter as porn, it is definitely a romance and the action is pretty tame. But, in porn there are movies that have more feeling that others…

There are a couple of female bloggers I follow, who have sites devoted to their porn obsession too! nom! 😀

I think there’s a difference between porn and m/m. One is more romantic and more about the feeling and the other about the smex and the visual. Whoever said women weren’t visual is full of it!

I’m so happy to have found a convert. I love this stuff and most of my friends, male and female, straight and gay, think I’m strange.

I didn’t realize that gay porn sites are now catering to straight women. That’s really cool. We’re not invisible any more! I link my reading to my watching habits – sometimes I’ll b e reading a paricularly hot book and feel the need for some gay porn.:) It’s like going to the movies and bringing along the popcorn!!

James Lear is one of my favourite writers – I reviewed The Back Passage and thought it was a hoot. His methods of crime detection would not have won the seal of approval from Agatha Christie.*g*

  • Hi Amanda
I first started reading gay porn when I read Anne Rice’s “Beauty” series which is mostly about BDSM but so beautifully written I couldn’t put the books down.

I don’t read or watch lesbian porn, only gay porn, because that’s what turns me on and I believe that a lot of bi or lesbian females don’t watch lesbian porn either. I wonder why that is? The popularity of lesbian romances seems to be going in a totally different direction to M/M romances as well.

You definitely seem to enjoy gay porn and are dertainly not in denial about it.:)

  • I have to go back to bed now – (it’s 4.21 A.M. my time) but leave your comments and I’ll respond when I’m up again. *g*

  • *blushing furiously*

Yes. I have a small collection which was sent to me by one of my internet friends (not Kris, I hasten to add).

    I was corrupted!!

Seriously, I’ve never really *got* m/f porn. It is all too mechanical and as a result rather dull. I was surprised to find the m/m porn much more accessible and enjoyable.

    • Jen
I would like you to make it clear that it wasn’t me either who sent you porn.:)

Does Hub know about your secret stash? If not, maybe he would enjoy some together time with your “collection”.*g*

Thank you for being so brave.

  • @Jen, I wonder why you feel the need to say it´s not Kris *g*

You guys make me feel I am missing out *g*

  • I’ve been watching and enjoying gay porn even before I started reading M/M books. I don’t know if that’s typical for a gay man but for me it was a way of discovering about my own sexuality.
And the internet has definitely made it easier to get access to it. I remember ordering my first VHS videos via postal service from Denmark. o_O

    • Christian
I’m really intrigued in your comment

*I don’t know if that’s typical for a gay man but for me it was a way of discovering about my own sexuality.*

I thought that it was standard fare for most gay men to watch gay porn from an early age just as it is for most straight men to watch regular porn. How wrong of me!

I’m also surprised that you had to order your first porn tape from Denmark. Is the German government very restrictive in terms of stuff coming into the country via mail? Can you buy gay porn in Germany?

  • Oh hell yes I do. Doesn’t everyone watch gay porn? 😛 Ever since I discovered youporn has a gay section. Before that there was the odd movie every now and then. It started out mostly as curiosity. Just as with lesbian porn and plain old porn. The other two are just not as interesting.

Is it an extention of reading m/m? For me? No. I don’t think so. The two are vastly different for some reason. Porn to me is not romantic and despite there being very raunchy books I don’t compare the two. Though I did look up some BDSM video’s because I got curious after reading a BDSM book. Discovered a whole different world. The things you can do with electricity *shakes head* 😛

Hmmmm it could be that the two are connected. It goes for a whole lot of things that are now available because of the internet. But then there was a whole lot before that too, it was just more an underdog.

  • I do watch gay porn, oh yes! Mostly online. Okay, ONLY online these days. X-Tube, for the most part. Real people, doing their thing. Buff bods aren’t nearly as important to me as real reactions. IMHO, nothing’s as big a turn-off as some gorgeous guy getting fucked/sucked/whatever and very clearly thinking about baseball instead. I’d rather see Average Joe with a little belly roll getting it up the ass and loving it. Loudly. I’ve bought a couple of DVDs before but honestly? I laughed. They were just as cheesy and stoopid as straight porn. That’s what I get for buying from the sale rack, I guess. LOL. I should stop being so cheap O_O

  • Oh god, now I know why you were urging me to answer. LOL You think I’m a perv don’t you? Umm, maybe you’re right. *blush*

I don’t OWN any and I’ve never technically downloaded any but there is a site listed on a certain yahoo group that has clips that are usually 15-20 min. long and I’ve never had any viruses from there. I have to say until about a year ago it never occurred to me to watch it. Not sure why, certainly wasn’t anything AGAINST it, just never thought of it, just like I never thought of reading m/m until I found JenB’s blog where she talked about it and I was curious. Curiosity killed the cat. :-)

I watched some m/f periodically before but find m/m more interesting although I find there are certain things that bore me. I can only watch sucking for so long before it gets boring to me. I also hate it when they are totally silent for the whole thing. I know they do that in some so they can appeal to an international market and don’t have to worry about language issues, but really, having sex for half and hour with never uttering a word? Is that normal? LOL Like anything I guess there are things that appeal to different people. I kind of like pretending there’s not people in the room with them (moving the camera around) and I HATE when they talk to the camera guy/director while doing it, I’ve seen a few where its obviously a couple (not actors or not getting paid) and like Ally said its much more intriguing because you know they are enjoying each other and not just a random act with a stranger (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I actually saw one where the guy was drumming his fingers on the counter while he was bent over being fucked. Ummm. How bored was he? LOL

I have a friend with an EXTENSIVE gay porn collection and he uses X-tube all the time now. I’ve never actually checked it out because somehow it frightens me. I’m afraid what I’ll see there. So far I still like my porn fairly vanilla.

Oh and I’ve never seen Brokeback Mountain, is that some kind of m/m sin? I don’t go to movies to be depressed at the end.
